Chapter Fifteen

THEN

After the most sumptuous breakfast at Lyric’s café, and in a desperate attempt to rid themselves of all the bad mojo of their conversation, Lyric whisked Lenox off in his makeshift chariot. They stopped first in San Miguel and took a walk up to the beautiful and picturesque church in the village. Along the way, they explored the little artisan craft market where Lenox paused to appreciate the fine craftsmanship of the various Ibizan products on display. The church provided them with the most stunning overlook of the land all around and the turquoise waters that stretched well beyond the horizon.

Afterwards, it was on to Portinatx beach where Lenox gawked at the translucent waters. They two spent hours snorkelling in the bay, marvelling at the tropical sea creatures that flitted around them as they dove deep down, exploring the seabed below.

As the morning stretched into afternoon, they stopped in Cala Benirras for a late lunch at a quaint little bohemian restaurant on the beach. They gorged on a vast array of small Mediterranean plates, washed down with crisp, white wine served in a tall glass carafe.

The atmosphere of the day was nothing but entrancing as Lenox opened his eyes to a side of the island he had never dreamed about. Every which way he turned, there was a new, raw beauty that seemed buried from all the tourist guides as if it was deliberately hiding from sight and unworthy eyes. Their conversation was light and unburdened, peppered only with essential exchange, as if too much benign chatter would spoil the intensity of the beauty that surrounded them. It left Lenox with time to consider what exactly he was getting himself into. He relished the idea that Lyric was so open with him already, and with every mention of Lyric’s family, he felt more drawn to this broken soul.

As they sat, Lenox stole as many lustful glances at his illustrious guide as he could without being too obvious. The energy emanating from his body was electric and Lenox was drawn to him like a moth to a flame. Lyric flashed a sideways grin in his direction that heated him from the inside out, like blowing on the dying embers of a campfire. The way Lyric made him feel was as if he was seeing a man for the first time; studying the way his body moved and contracted when he walked, the masculine set to his jawline as he spoke, and the curve of his muscles that hugged his frame in an almost poetic manner.

When they had finished eating, Lyric took Lenox by the hand and led them back to his Jeep.

“I’ve got one more thing to show you,” he whispered into his ear and wrapped an arm around his bare shoulders.

Lenox said nothing, instead closing his eyes and breathing in the salty scent of Lyric’s skin, bathing in the moment until his mouth was practically watering.

They drove east again, towards Cala San Vicente, and stopped at a small cliffside area that was deserted except for a few locals, dotted across the shaded space.
